GET READY 4 #schladming2020!

A little sneak peak of our daily work on the mountain!

24H-Downhill-MTB Worldrecord 2019

We did a massive project in fall 2018 with Mercedes Benz. You can see the outcome in the video bellow:

Bikepark closed in 2019

In 2019 the gates of Bikepark Schladming will be closed.
The reason for this is the reconstruction of the gondola as well as the renewal and extension of the tracks on the Planai.
But as a consolation we have a treat for you: because the Reiteralm Trails will be open for you in June 2019.
A flowy singletrack as well as the junior trails for the little ones – family fun for all! So the offer Schladming-Dachtstein BIKE is completed at Reopening 2020 and you can not only experience shredding fun at the Planai!

We are looking forward to the season 2020 #biggerandbetter

Season Closing 2018

On the 13th of October the legendary Season Closing including the Shaper Games took place in Bikepark Schladming.
A worthy season ending including mega fun and nice action as well as an aftershow party at Marias Mexican!

Thanks to all sponsors, employees, friends, helpers, relatives and acquaintances for the support - BUT the biggest thank you goes to all our riders out there, because YOU make every season unique - just like this one!

Over and out!

The Bikepark today, is closed from 3pm because of transport flights.

ATTENTION – important Information!

Tomorrow all day the lower part of the bike park (from the middle station) is closed because of material transport regarding the floodlights!

We apologize for any inconvenience!

Another Event Weekend is in the books!

What a weekend!

On Saturday the Shot in Thrill & #style4date took place for the first time in combination.

In the morning the LINES photographer hid at 3 different spots on the downhill track and took some really nice shots of the riders.

Afterward, we continued with #style4dates at the last photo spot – the step-up.

The number of participants has tripled since last year. This time the girls could fight for a date, too. Paula Zibasa and Manuela Walder proved not only through style but also through courage how much they deserve their dates.
On Sunday followed the first GIANT Top 50 downhill race.
It was to be a race of a different kind – on a shortened track, from step-up on the finish line at the former Dirtpark. The riders could ride as many laps as they wanted to qualify. This racing mode was very popular with the participants, because who doesn’t like shredding countless runs and can win money at the same time?

But in the end, there was only one winner – Local Hero Andreas Kolb! Followed by Patrick Butler in second place and Bikepark Schladming rider Erich Wieland in third place, the fastest Women Paula Zibasa also won € 150,- in prize money and cool prizes. But also a fastest Young Gun was awarded – none other than Nico Ofner.

From Saturday 25.08. the Bikepark Planai is closed from the middle station! – 15% discount on the normal lift ticket prices!

We kindly ask for your understanding!

From 13.08. the Dirtpark and the Pumptrack will be closed for the entire season 2018, this area will be leveled!

This was the Race & Style Camp 2018

From July 11th – 13th the Race & Style Camp with Pro Rider Andreas Viehböck took place in the Bikepark Schladming.

The first day was a bit rainy, so the course started with theory. In addition, the braking techniques were improved and the boys learned how to screw on their bikes independently. On day 2 they went on the track, practicing curve-, jumping- and line techniques. In the evening there was a chilled barbecue at the pump track together with the parents to tell about what they had learned.

The third day started with sector training and ended with a small race

Many thanks to Andreas Viehböck and Traunsee Flow as well to all participants.

Important advance information – Bikepark closure on 30 June 2018!

The Schladming-Dachstein region is hosting the opening event of the Austrian EU Presidency. This leads to some safety requirements – which also affect the Bikepark Schladming!

In order to ensure the safety of visitors to the mountain – both visitors and the political delegation – the following measures must be implemented:

– The Bikepark Schladming will be closed all day on Saturday 30 June 2018!
– All-day passenger control at the Planai valley station before the ascent with the Planai cable car
– Full-day blockade of the Planai airspace plus target stadium (no paragliding flight)

Please be aware that this is an official order.

We kindly ask for your understanding!

From the 15th to the 16th of September Giant Bicycles – Österreich & Liv Cycling Österreich will visit the Bikepark Schladming and bring the newest Bike Modells with them.

Enduros, Glorys and E-Bikes will be ready for you to test them on the tracks. The Profis from Giant Bicycles – Österreich will be on spot and can advise you best with their knowledge.

Gravity Games 2016 – Recap

Sun, rain and champagne showers – the Gravity Games 2016 in rewind

The third edition of the iXS European Downhill Cup at Schladming provided all riders and the audience with 3 days of pure downhill action. More than 400 riders from 27 countries joined the Gravity Games from June 17-19, 2016, and took up the challenges that the legendary track and the inconsistent weather conditions had to offer. After 3 days of racing action, Slawomir Lukasik (POL) conquered the top of the podium – after his two second places in the previous races of the EDC, his victory was well deserved. Thanks to Petra Bernhard, the crowd at Schladming was able to celebrate an Austrian victory in the category Elite Women.

As probably fastest track in Europe, Schladming is attracting lots of international participants, year after year. Last weekend, the track on the Planai was again in perfect shape and challenged the downhill elite. During the runs, the excitement even rose with the weather changing. Already on Saturday, the riders got caught by the rain in the qualification. Thus, it got quite turbulent on the final grass passage. One rider who caused loud shouts and cheers in the crowd was the serial winner of the previous EDC races Johannes Fischbach. Despite his bail at the last turn, the German came in second in the seeding runs. Only beaten by David Trummer (AUT).

On the final day, the sun welcomed all riders – a condition which abruptly changed in the afternoon. Whereas the riders of the Elite Men in the Small Final still had some dry runs, the Superfinals evolved into a mud challenge with thrilling action. For a rather long time, the South African Stefan Garlicki took over the hot seat on which traditionally the current rider sits down.  Then Laurie Greenland entered the race. Shortly before arriving in Schladming the favored Brit made his first top ten world cup result and took the full risk on the track: He barely made the last jump before crossing the finish line with a new best time and then crashing in the finishing area. His time was only beaten by an outstanding performance of Slawomir Lukasik. Already at the first intermediate he took the lead and subsequently came in first with a time of 4:17.135 and a 3.584 second lead.  Well-deserved after his last two second places at the previous races.

It almost seemed like Petra Bernhard was competing in a league of her own.  Even though the Styrian female rider had already resigned from her active racing career, she couldn’t say no to this legendary race in Schladming. She sent her run in a time of 5:12.733 and outpaced her competitors in the category Elite Women with a commanding lead of 12.622 seconds.

On all three days of the race, the spectators could enjoy an action-packed program – alongside with the iXS European Cup runs, two more thrilling side events took place: the Planai Pump Masters supported by Spark 7 and the Austrian Whip Offs presented by Bell – both of which were won by local riders: On Friday, Michael Amon won the title at the Planai Pump Masters and on Saturday, Manuel Schretter showed off the most stylish whip in front of the cheering crowd.

IXS European Downhill Cup 2015 Schladming – Recap

GravityGames__21-06-2015__by Roland Haschka__017

Highlight of the Gravity Games 2015 in the Bikepark Plani, was the iXS Europeam Downhill Cup on Sunday. The weather was again a mixture of rain, clouds and sunshine – hence no easy job for the riders, to get the best out of the challenging downhill track on Planai.

Let’s have a look who was the best today in each of the competing categories:

As usually the “Seniors” started the finals of the iXS Downhill Cup in Schladming. With no fear, the guys wrecked their bikes down the 2.5km long downhill track and fought hard until the very end. Eventually it was Michal Sliwa from Poland who took the lead with a time of 04:25.557, in front of the Dane Mads Weidemann and the German Benjamin Herold.
Next up were the younguns in the category Pro Youth U17. Here it was the young Brit Joe Parfitt who performed better than all other riders, winning with a time of 04:26.799. Behind him: Andrea Bianciotto from Italy and Moritz Ribarich from Austria.
The second category among the rookies were the “Pro Juniors U19”. Here we had a very tight race between the first two ridres. In the end however it was Laurie Greenland from Great Britain taking the lead with a time of 04:14.206 – beating the young Australian Max Warshawksy and the Canadian Henry Fitzgerald.
And then it got really exciting, as it was time for the ladies, competing in the category “Elite Women”. Last year’s winner Emmeline Ragot from France was already in the Seeding Runs on Saturday faster than all the other girls, and also in the big finals, nobody was able to beat her. The rider from the Team MS Mondraker hence wins for the second time in a row the iXS Downhill Cup in Schladming, this year with a time of 04:37.755. Coming in second, there was Tahnée Seagrave from Great Britain, just before Tracey Hannah from Australia.
Best Austrian girl was local Petra Bernhard, who was able to score the fifth place with a solid run (5:04.172).

GravityGames__21-06-2015__by Roland Haschka__004

The „ELITE Man“
Shortly after 3pm, it was time for the ultimate showdown of the Gravity Games 2015 – the Superfinals of the iXS Downhill Cup in the category Elite Men. The finishing area of the Planai was raising the roof, when the top 30 riders came down the steep hill, battling for the best time. After the results from the Seeding Runs, it was clear that among those riders, everyone is able to come in first. And in the end it was a true dramatic finish. For a long time it looked like the young Kiwi George Brannigan was unable to beaten today, with his fantastic time of 04:03.931. However than as last rider, the Danny Hart show started. Danny fought until the very last meter of the track and eventually was able to beat Brannigan with a time of 04:03.573 – not even half a second faster than George. Right after the race, Danny couldn’t hold back his feelings: “Wow, what a feeling! Today everybody was going so super fast! What an amazing track! Thank you Schladming for having me, it’s been a pleasure!”
Behind Brannigan on place 3 there was last year’s winner Loic Bruni from the Lapierre Gravity Team, in front of Ruaridh Cunningham on place 4. The fifth place was another surprise: Austrian and Schladming local Markus Pekoll demonstrated impressively that he is back, after his heavy injury a few months ago. PARK UPDATE: WINTER BREAK at Bikepark Planai – Season Start 2015, May 25th!

Winter is just around the corner, and at Bikepark Planai the summer season is officially over – gates are closed and the downhill slope has to give place for the winter activity. Last weekend, as part of the “Shaper Games” the ending of the season was celebrated appropriate. Many shaper and bike fans enjoyed a few beers in cozy atmosphere. You can have a look at the highlights of the Shaper Games in the following video.

We want to say thank you to all bike-fans out there for this great season and we will be back in spring just in time to let you know about news and updates!

What does a pretty girl, scantily dressed with a cardboard box, standing in front oft he Alpreif Bike-Center in Schladming? She screams rapturously: „Come on ladies and gents, take your chance now – it won’t get cheaper than that, because there is no cheaper…!“

That’s how we actually wanted to promote our current Rental-Bike Sale, but for some reason our intern was a little reluctant… maybe she thought of the low temperatures outside. So we let you know about our great rental bike sale this way. There are still some completely restored and serviced bikes from our Lapierre and Giant fleet. All expendables have been renewed and the first rate material will be equipped with a completely new set of tires. Well, there’s not much else left to say, but we are sure your best friend won’t sell you his bike this cheap and in such an excellent condition.

Here’s the complete list of available bikes. However, you shouldn’t wait too long, as we know from experience that the best bikes will find new bums for their seat pretty soon!

Lapierre Gravity International Team rocking Bikepark Planai

The 2014 Gravity Games in Schladming were dominated by the two Lapierre Worldcup contestants Loic Bruni and Emmeline Ragot, who both ruled the men and women categories of the IXS Downhill Cup. Their outstanding performance and speed may owe to their early arrival in Schladming a few days before the event. Together with their Team Mate Sam Blenkinsop, they took the chance to take some laps and cruise this marvelous and fluent downhill track. On this special occasion, the Bikepark Planai crew managed to pull off a Lapierre Pro Shooting with some of the best film- and photographers, who were just as well really stoked working together with these superstars.

_web_Bikepark_Planai__18-06-2014__action__Emmeline_Ragot__Roland_Haschka_ymm__001 _web_Bikepark_Planai__18-06-2014__action__Sam_Blenkinsop__Roland_Haschka_ymm__013 _web_Bikepark_Planai__18-06-2014__action__Loic_Bruni__Roland_Haschka_ymm__106

The Schladming downhill course has by many riders been referred to as one of the best worldwide. But good lord – the other parts of the Bikepark Planai are definitely worth a ride too and hence the area obviously attracts some of the best mountainbikers for exactly these reasons. Hailing from New Zealand, Sam Blenkinsop already won the Schladming Downhill back in 2008 when it was still part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. Definitely he has some good memories and nothing but love for the track: „it’s one of the sickest racetracks i’ve rode in my career. I love this place it’s awesome. The gradient, the soil and the dirt are very special and it just makes you smile straight away. After you finished you want to go back up as fast as possible“, Sam goes into raptures.

In the morning of the shooting, the whole crew met up for a quick meet and greet at the Alpreif Bikecenter. After some introduction filming, there was no time to waste and everybody really pushed on getting things started. The downhill course was the chosen one and the rest of the day was all about riding, hiking and basically having as much fun as possible. The riders had a blast and showed why they stand on top of the game year after year – watching professional riders perform like this was definitely an experience for the shooting crew.

The media crew was really focused on getting the best out of the athletes and captured every single move in the best possible way. After a long day full of massive whips, steep curves and high-speed maneuvers, everybody headed for the valley – with big smiles on their faces but also a little wrecked due to the high efforts for the shooting. Great things were about to come during the next days and – looking back – the extra shift eventually might have made the difference – who knows? The highlights of the day can best be revisited via the webclip and the photogallery.

Gravity Games 2014 – Highlight Clip

With an action-packed race-weekend, Schladming has finally returned into serious Mountainbike business and has set its foot again onto the international stage. Alongside the Alpinestars Whip-Off Session and the Dual Pumptrack Race, the iXS European Downhill Cup was considered the most prestigious discipline of the weekend. In the end, Loic Bruni and Emmeline Ragot owned this most spectacular downhill track of the Bikepark Schladming.

We have all event highlights wrapped up for you in this nice video edit – ENJOY!

Sunday, 22nd of June 2014

Not a single spot in the sky and glistening sunshine were waiting for the riders at the final runs of the iXS European Downhill Cup. The track was really demanding, due to the dry heat and thus the participants had to stay highly focused and controlled at their physical play.

The Masters Category started the race off, of which Benny Herold (GER – NRG-FOES Racing Fact) emerged victorious. Christian Junker (GER – TREK Fahrrad Eberhardt) and Christian Vogt (GER – RIP/Skilift Sägenhof Urach) closed up the hattrick for Germany.

Emmeline Ragot from France (Lapierre Gravity Republic) outshone her colleagues of the Elite Women with the excellent time of 04:14:114 and a remarkable lead of 4.167 seconds. Tracey Hannah, fastest of the seedings, attained second place (AUS – Hutchinson UR). Tahnée Seagrave (GBR – FMD Racing) completed the podium defending her third rank of the seedings. Local Petra Bernhard (Alpine Commercial) remained best Austrian of the day on place six with a solid run (4:29:557). “I’m really happy with my run, everything worked out well and I was able to realize what I had planned. The track in Schladming is one of my favorites and I always feel comfortable here. You can really go all out!”

The finish area in Schladming was boiling when the top 50 riders of the Elite Men category rushed down the world cup slope. Frenchman Thome Patrick (FRA – Gstaad-Scott) was able to maintain his place on the top for quite a long time and it seemed his lap was going for gold, as more and more top ten riders barely missed his mark. Harry Molloy (GBR – RRP Ghost) who was the third last to start, bailed shortly before the finish line and so Bruni and Blenkinsop were forced to stop their runs and start over again. At that point, Thome still led the table with his 3:53.164 with all top five riders following within just one second.

Gravity Games__Saturday__press__Roland Haschka__Rider_Loic_Bruni_ymm__011

When Sam Blekinsop went down the course again, his run did not turn out too well and he landed on the 8th place. However, Loic Bruni, the last to go down the Bikepark Schladming at the this year’s Gravity Games, had an incredible run and with only 3:49.104 on the stopwatch, he surpassed his fellow Thome by as many as 4 seconds! “I just feel good on this trail and gave my best. When the rider before me fell and I had to go back to the start, I was able to get focused again and then I just let my bike go. I’m so stoked that my run worked out that good, it’s just awesome!” the sympathetic Frenchman comments on his victory. The Austrian David Trummer (RRP Ghost) took home the third place with a great time of 3:53.164, which extends his lead of the European cup. Local Manuel Gruber (Radon Facory DH) followed right after him on place 4 with a solid run.

Track Walk – & Training

Since insiders have treated the 2, 5 km (1, 5 mi) strenuous trail with more than 600 meters (2000ft) up and down as the non-plus-ultra, the 2nd stop of the iXS European Downhill Cup prompted high expectations. So no wonder the top-notch of teams with more than 450 riders out of 26 nations joined the party and pitched their pits at the Bikepark Schladming gates.

After the finish area at the Planai had undergone a massive redesign in the course of the FIS worldcup last year, the areal has proven to provide the perfect backdrop for the contest for both audience and riders. As a special treat, an abandoned part of the world cup slope has been reactivated for the event, adding to its motto “Back to the World Cup Roots”. In view of all this and the setup of the iXS series, the participants were truly satisfied with the local conditions and hence the way to a perfect race-weekend was paved!

Friday morning started off with a track walk. Despite the ‘not-so-perfect’ outdoor conditions, the light rain added a handy portion of grip to the rather dusty and slippery trail. If you’re curious how it looked like up there, you can get an exclusive view of the whole track at the course check with Brendan Fairclough (GBR – Gstaad-Scott) and take a little adrenaline-sip delivered right onto your couch – have fun!

Die Alpinestars Whip-Off Session

The highlight of the day was the Alpinestars Whip-Off Session at the Planai Pumptrack. All insiders do know what we are talking about but for all other “Bike-Virgins”, Markus Pekoll – best Austrian rider in the Worldcup – gives you a short explanation about the ingredients of a “perfect Whip”:

„If you do a whip, the back wheel moves before the front wheel while jumping. Important is the height, a clean execution and a save landing. Furthermore the movement should look smooth and stylish”.

Gravity Games__Alpinestars Whip Off__Skultety Marian__press__Roland Haschka__ymm__011 Gravity Games__Alpinestars Whip Off__press__Roland Haschka__ymm__003 Gravity Games__Alpinestars Whip Off__press__Roland Haschka__ymm__007

Over 40 riders took the challenge and participated at the open Jam Session. They had one hour time to show their best whips and to impress the 3 judges. In the end following 8 riders moved on to the finals:

16 – Ordendaal Tiaan (RSA)
74 – Pazdziorko Grégoire (BEL)
92 – Stewart Neil (GBR)
167 – Revelli Loris (ITA)
198 – Luiz Domenic (GER)
273 – Skultéty Marian (SVK)
293 – Bettermann Laurin (GER)
425 – Gahr Lukas (AUT)

The 8 finalist had two more runs to show their skills. Three riders stood out from the crowed: Stewart Neil from Great Britain, Skultety Marian from Slovakia and Ordendaal Tiaan from South Africa. In a thrilling Super-Final the three of them battled for the vctory. With massive style, hight and flow – all ingredients that a perfect Whip should have – it was Skultéty Marian (SVK – Lapierre CMS) who gained the crown, leaving Steward and Ordendaal on rank 2 and 3. Furthermore Skultéty is the new owner of a brandnew Bionic Neck Support Tech Carbon sponsored by Alpinestars.

More than 420 bikers will participate at the iXS DHC and will show their best riding skills and will race with speeds up to 70km/h through the 2.5 km long downhill track.

…will be represented by Sam Blenkinsop (NZL), Loic Bruni (FRA) and Emmeline Ragot (FRA). Sam Blenkinsop could already win in 2008 his first Downhill Weltcup on this track.

Sam_Blenkinsop (2) “Schladming is for me a really incredible feeling. The track has all the details I like when I ride: fast open sections, a lot of speed, roots and grass between trees. 2008  I won the Final World Cup run in Schladming, and I was on fire. The atmosphere is like at the Ski Race, but with the fun of the MTB. It’s definitely the race I want to win again!”

We are looking forward to Sam’s performance on site! Btw, one of Sam’s trademarks is to compete without protection gloves. What it’s all about, we will find out at the Gravity Games on site – stay tuned!

Also top riders like Brendan Fairclough (GBR), Matt Simmonds (GBR), Cam Cole (NZL) and Sam Dale (GBR) already confirmed their starting place. At the elite women’s category we will see the Junior World Champion from 2011, Manon Carpenter (GBR), in action!

Also some local heroes will be part of the game like the Austrian Champion Manuel Gruber or current EDC-leader David Trummer.

The ruthless pics can be seen and downloaded here at the gallery!
